Sulzer Calcitek Inc. Announces the Clearance of the First Bioresorbable Membrane Pin System Available in the US: LEADfix® Bioresorbable Membrane Pin System
Carlsbad, California: (May 8, 1998) -- Sulzer Calcitek Inc. announces the introduction of the first bioresorbable membrane pin system available in the United States.
The LEADfix bioresorbable membrane pin system is designed to fixate and stabilize resorbable barrier membranes during the healing process by providing an attachment mechanism for the membrane to the adjacent bone at the surgical site. The LEADfix membrane pin is indicated for use with guided tissue and guided bone regeneration membranes.
Other membrane fixation devices currently on the market are made of non-resorbable metals. These products would typically require a subsequent surgical procedure to remove the device. LEADfix pins are completely bioresorbable and can be used in conjunction with any resorbable membrane.
The LEADfix pins are manufactured by BIOVISION GmbH. The product was cleared to market by the Food & Drug Administration on January 30, 1998.
